What do your prayers look like?I'll be honest, I have prayed my whole life, but up until recently... my prayers have been selfish. Praying always involved asking God to give me something or help me in some small way. They were about me, myself, and I and they almost always were not about something big or life changing. I prayed small and simple prayers that wouldn't leave me or anyone else in a much different state after they were answered. This is not the purpose of prayer. The purpose of praying is to build a deep and meaningful relationship with the Creator of the Universe. I don't know about you, but I don't typically pray as if I'm talking to the One who knows, owns, and controls ALL THINGS. If you had a personal relationship with the richest, most powerful human being on the planet who invited us to ask for anything... wouldn't you have pretty big asks? I wouldn't just be asking for an A on a test, a higher paying job, or that I would get a nap today because the baby kept me up all night. I would be asking for supplies to feed and clothe the hungry, for the resources to give families to orphaned children, and for the means and wisdom to educate, build up, and send out the Body of Christ to do nothing but preach the Gospel and share the love of Jesus. I would be asking for the chance to make a difference. So why don't we ask God for these things in a powerful and earnest way? God is not even human. We don't even have to ask for realistic things. We can ask for miracles. We can ask for supernatural healing. We can ask for amazing blessings. Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. |
