So we haven't written in a while because life has been busy and there hasn't been too much of anything NEW to write about that we haven't already posted somewhere already. Since the launch of our church on September 11, we've really just been getting the word out, training and teaching our new volunteers, and learning how to get into a rhythm of preparing for each Sunday. And as far as fundraising goes, we are in the same position as our last post: we still haven't reached our desired support amount but by the grace and provision of God, we have been able to pay for every bill and necessity so far! So while most of our posts are about the church plant or fundraising, this time I want to share about the lessons we are learning in this season of life. the funny thing is, every single lesson we are learning can be filed under one word: dependence. But here's the thing, in 21st century America, dependence is not considered a valuable trait. It's almost a dirty word. And definitely harbors negative connotation. Dependence on the government labels you a freeloader. Dependence on your parents labels you as immature. Dependence on drugs/alcohol/any vice labels you an addict. Pretty much the only time when dependence is a positive thing is when it's read as "Dependents" during tax season! Independence is heavily celebrated as something we should strive for in just about every area of our lives. But according to Scripture, DEPENDENCE is one of the most valuable lessons that we can and must learn. "I depend on god alone; i put my hope in him." |
